Upper Marlboro resident Dion Tevon McBeth, 25, who has a previous conviction for crimes of violence, was arrested following a scene that could have been ripped out of a movie script when he was spotted driving a stolen car by the vehicle's owner, who alerted the authorities.

Officers from the Charles County Sheriff's Office were called to Western Parkway in Waldorf earlier this week when a vehicle owner called 911 and reported seeing their car, which had been reported stolen in the area.

The responding officer attempted to pull McBeth over, but he sped away, hopping a curb, and hopping out of the car while it was still in motion, which continued on without a driver on Western Parkway until it struck a curb and became disabled.

McBeth took off on foot into a nearby wooded area, at which point officers realized he was armed with a gun, and he continued to refuse to respond to their commands demanding he stop running.

In response, an officer used a Taser-like device to subdue him, and he was taken into custody.

McBeth was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, and further investigation into McBeth found that he was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his previous felony conviction.

Once he was released from the hospital, McBeth was taken to the Charles County Detention Center, where he was charged with:

  • Motor vehicle theft;
  • Illegal possession of a firearm;
  • Illegal possession of ammunition;
  • Transported a loaded firearm in a vehicle;
  • "Other related charges."

He is being held without bond. No information about his next court appearance has been released.
